Description

How To Use Chicken Manure

Composted chicken manure works best when you mix it into the top few inches of soil before planting. Because of its high nutrient content, it should always be blended with existing soil rather than used alone. This method prevents root burn and allows plants to absorb nutrients gradually.

Application Instructions:

  1. For Garden Beds and Flower Beds:
    • Spread 1–2 inches of composted chicken manure across the bed.
    • Use a rake or tiller to mix it into the top 4–6 inches of soil.

    • Water the area lightly to help activate microbial activity.

    • After mixing, wait 5–7 days before planting to allow the compost to integrate.

  2. For Vegetable Gardens:

    • Before planting, add 1 cubic foot (1 bag) per 10–12 square feet of garden area.

    • Mix it evenly into the soil to prevent nutrient hotspots.

    • Use it in early spring to prepare beds for the growing season or in fall to enrich soil for next year.

  3. For Trees and Shrubs:

    • Spread compost in a 2–3 foot radius around the base, staying clear of the trunk.

    • Gently work it into the soil surface and water thoroughly.

  4. For Lawns:

    • Apply a thin layer (¼ to ½ inch) over the lawn as a top dressing.

    • Rake it evenly and water well to help nutrients absorb into the soil.

    • Use after aerating or before overseeding for best results.

This product contains no chemicals, weeds, insects, or harmful pathogens, so you can safely apply it around edible crops, ornamental plants, and turfgrass. Because it’s fully composted, it provides slow-release nutrients that improve soil structure, boost microbial activity, and support long-term plant health.

Flower Bed & Vegetable Garden

Spread a 1- to 2-inch layer of composted chicken manure evenly over the planting area, then till it directly into the soil. After blending, water the soil thoroughly to activate the nutrients. If you’ve already planted your beds, apply a ½-inch layer of composted chicken manure around your existing plants, keeping it off the stems and leaves. Next, water the area well to help nutrients soak in, and then resume your regular watering schedule. This process enriches the soil while supporting strong, healthy plant growth.

Chicken Manure for Trees & Shrubs

First, dig the planting hole at least twice as wide as the root ball to ensure proper root expansion. Then, place the plant in the center of the hole, making sure the top of the root ball sits 2 to 3 inches above the surrounding grade. Next, mix 5 parts soil with 1 part composted chicken manure to create a nutrient-rich backfill. Fill the hole until the soil is level with the surrounding ground, taking care to keep the root flare at the base of the trunk clearly visible. After planting, spread a 1-inch layer of composted chicken manure on top of the soil, from the trunk out to the drip line. Finally, water thoroughly to help settle the soil and activate nutrient absorption.

Spreading Chicken Manure In Lawns

For Existing Lawns:

Lightly spread composted chicken manure across the lawn surface. Then, use a rake to distribute it evenly without smothering the grass. After spreading, water the area thoroughly to help nutrients reach the soil. Continue with your regular watering schedule to maintain lawn health.

For New Lawns:

Start by spreading ½ inch to 1 inch of composted chicken manure evenly over the entire planting area. Then, till it into the existing soil, mixing thoroughly to create a nutrient-rich base. Once prepared, lay sod or sow grass seed according to the instructions. Water the area thoroughly to establish moisture, and then return to your regular watering routine for ongoing growth and maintenance.

How much chicken manure to add to the soil?

Tips For Planting Success

  • Be sure to water your plants regularly during establishment period, especially during periods of drought.

  • Mulch around new plants to suppress weeds, preserve moisture and protect from mechanical damages. (mowers, trimmers, etc.) 2″-4″ thick at most.

  • Do not overdo the tilling in vegetable and flower gardens. Lumpy soil has more air porse. holds moisture better and will not blow away or wash away as easy as powdery soil.

  • Composting your lawn every spring or fall improves soil health. If core aerating, do so before adding compost.
